KPI researchers develop system for assessing condition of waterways

Recently, the forum entitled “Water in Industry and Agriculture during War and Climate Crisis” took place in Kyiv. This event brought together more than 400 participants from various regions of Ukraine.

During the forum, Kostiantyn Yefremov, Director of the World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), showcased developments in the area of the automation of processes to assess the condition of waterways and the quality of water. Specifically, this innovative system is capable of aggregating, storing, and analyzing observation data on pollutants collected at fixed and mobile monitoring points.

To date, a pilot system for the online monitoring of water quality has successfully entered service in the Chernihiv region. Representatives from the Chernihivvodokanal utility company willingly shared their experience of its efficient operation.

KPI’s design team has already received numerous requests to join the platform from stakeholders based in Kyiv, Dnipro, Poltava, and Mykolaiv regions.
