KPI, Poland look for new ways of cooperation

A Zoom meeting between Mykhailo Zgurovsky, Rector of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), and Waldemar Siwinski, co-founder of the Polish education foundation Perspektywy and Vice-President of the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG), took place on May 5.

Participants in the meeting discussed how to rescue Ukraine’s academic community from the crisis as well as how to increase visibility for Ukrainian science in Europe, becoming more actively involved in international programs.

Mykhailo Zgurovsky thanked Polish colleagues for support for the Ukrainian students and scholars, who relocated to Poland, and he emphasized that today it would be necessary to focus on more systematic cooperation between the two countries.

“We are very concerned lest our scientific schools should weaken or even perish, whereas some of them are really competitive at European and global level,” Mr. Zgurovsky said.

He invited Waldemar Siwinski and his foundation to partner in several KPI research projects. The Rector pointed out that KPI urgently needs communication with European scientific schools and universities, as well as professional advice to participate in European programs.

To this end, they agreed to further cooperation and entered into an arrangement to take the next necessary steps.

“Our Polish friends will soon develop the system of assistance to KPI, and then this system will be used at other Ukrainian universities,” concluded Sergii Sydorenko, Vice-Rector for International Relations.
