KPI researchers develop unique technique for thermal destruction to recycle polymeric wastes

A team of researchers led by Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) Prof. Alex Kolosov have developed the unique technology and experimental equipment designed to turn polymeric waste products made from polyethylene and polypropylene into alternative motor fuel, gas and carbon residue.

Specifically, the technology makes it possible to produce valuable fuel from waste, much of which is toxic. This will enable a reduction in the cost of oil and gas production, making Ukraine more energy independent.

Technology-based business entities are the efficient, profitable businesses that have high payback. In particular, R.O.I., or Return on Investment, is 51%, and IP, or Investment Payback, is estimated at two years.

The technology is protected by four Ukraine’s patents for inventions and utility models. Two international patent applications have been filed and successfully passed the search and examination process.
