KPI linguistics student wins GFPS scholarship to study at University of Warsaw

Khrystyna Halytska, a linguistics student pursuing a master’s degree at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), has won Poland’s GFPS scholarship (Organisation for Student and Cultural Exchange in Central and Eastern Europe). She learned about the GFPS scholarship project from Wojciech Zwolinski, a KPI teacher of Polish, who advised her and other students to join this project in Poland.

The topic of Halytska’s research project “Impact of Learning English on Language Consciousness of the Poles. Cultural Interference of American Concepts in Everyday Life” was not chosen by chance. A professor at the University of Warsaw took a keen interest in Halytska’s idea, so the representatives of GFPS and University of Warsaw conducted an online interview with her a few days later. The KPI student soon received the e-mail message that she was successful in winning the scholarship, followed by standard procedure for filing documents required from exchange students.

It is worth noting too that Khrystyna Halytska is good at English and Polish, has extensive experience in communicating with students from different countries during summer courses in Poland. In addition, she has repeatedly participated in language competitions and dictation contests organized by the Embassy of Poland in Ukraine. She also takes part in public initiatives at the KPI Faculty of Linguistics.

This interesting scholarship program offers winners the following:

  • Monthly grant-in-aid to the amount of 1,600 zlotys
  • Opportunity to choose a Polish university to study for one semester and get support during an admission campaign
  • Ongoing assistance from the active local GFPS group
  • Free participation in two scientific and cultural seminars (at the beginning and at the end of semester)

In order to apply for the GFPS scholarship in Poland, a student should:

  • Fill out the scholarship application on the website
  • Prepare a resume and cover letter
  • Write the plan of his/her scholarship project
  • Get a graduate certificate from his/her home university
  • Submit a certificate evidencing proficiency in Polish

When applying for the scholarship, candidates are supposed to indicate three Polish cities where they would like to study.

It should be emphasized that this scholarship is aimed at students who are highly successful in their studies, developing promising scientific ideas, as well as providing a proof of knowledge of English and/or Polish not lower than B2 level. The students who take part in public initiatives and are involved in non-governmental organizations are especially welcome.
