Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute joins Magna Charta Universitatum 2020

In the name of Ukraine’s Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Rector Mykhailo Zgurovsky signed Magna Charta Universitatum 2020 on May 11, 2021, thereby declaring a commitment to the Magna Charta Universitatum 1988 as well as to upholding and the advancement of the principles, values and responsibilities stated in the MCU 2020.

The official launch of MCU 2020 will take place at a special virtual forum on June 16 and 17, 2021. Conference speakers will discuss global perspectives about the challenges and obligations facing universities today and how the MCU 2020 responds to them.

The new MCU removes nothing from the original fundamental values to which universities signed up. It strives to be responsive to and resonate with contemporary challenges and concerns. It recognizes the more global nature of what universities do and the wider range of local responsibilities which they have.

MCU 2020 was drafted by an international group comprising Prof. Narend Baijnath, Prof. Patrick Deane, Prof. Marta Losada, Dr Sijbolt Noorda (Chair), Ms. Eva Egon-Polak, Prof. Chanita Rukspollmuang, Ms. Tamires Gomes Sampaio, Prof. Francesco Ubertini, with David Lock as secretary to the group.

For the first time in history of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Rector Mykhailo Zgurovsky signed the Magna Charta Universitatum at the University of Bologna on September 16, 2003, joining the European higher education community of more than 430 signatory universities.
