The Magna Charta Observatory’s (MCO) conference themed ‘Universities and the Reconstruction of Cities: the Role of Research and Education’ is coming to the University of Lodz on October 23-25, 2023.
The event will draw on Eastern-European experience as well as feature international inputs from a wide range of countries. Also, the conference will provide opportunities for attendees to network and broaden their experience.
Well-known international speakers will share their vision and lead discussions; participants from universities around the world can be actively engaged in small-group discussions.
The conference’s focus extends beyond post-conflict situations, although the Ukrainian universities, which are affected by ongoing russian aggression, are expected to be in attendance.
It is worth noting too that the MCO suspended all the russian universities that had signed the russian union of rectors’ statement supporting the war. This decision was made in response to the war crimes being committed by russian terrorists, including missile, drone, and artillery attacks on Ukrainian universities. These actions, coupled with the abduction and torture of professors, represent a deliberate campaign against Ukrainian intellectuals and civic leaders. This disturbing situation recalls the destruction of Ukraine’s teachers, professors and writers by Stalin in the 1930s when some 80% of the nation’s intelligentsia was destroyed.
