Kyiv Polytechnic carries out project to aid children affected by war

The Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is working on an important project to apply CAD/CAM technologies in orthopaedics and rehabilitation engineering to aid children affected by the armed aggression of russia against Ukraine.

This initiative, undertaken by Kyiv Polytechnic’s Faculty of Biomedical Engineering in cooperation with the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv and experts from the Poznan University of Technology, has attracted the attention of prospective partners from the United States – the Elevate Ukraine non-profit organisation, and the Arlene Campbell Humanitarian Foundation, whose representatives recently visited Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute to explore the avenues of collaboration.

The project’s objectives are both innovative and far-reaching:
• Development of technologies, design of prostheses and assistive devices for paediatric needs;
• Establishment of a modern paediatric prosthetic laboratory equipped with 3D scanners, printers, a workstation, and modelling software, among others;
• Professional consulting in paediatric prosthetics and additive technologies;
• Development of international cooperation in paediatric rehabilitation engineering;
• Search for humanitarian organisations and grant funding to support the project.

This cooperation is vital as it will help streamline the process of children’s prosthetics and make it as accessible as possible.
