Ihor Klymenko, student at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), has been named the winner of the Global Student Prize 2022. The US$100,000 sister award to the Global Teacher Prize is given to one exceptional student who has made a real impact on learning, the lives of their peers, and on society beyond.
Klymenko’s win was announced from New York, U.S.A., on September 20.
In 5th grade, when the war in Ukraine began, Ihor knew he wanted to help his country. For the last two years he has been actively working on his latest research, Quadcopter Mines Detector, which he has successfully presented at numerous competitions and exhibitions.
For example, Ihor Klymenko was a finalist of the 10th Festival of Innovative Projects “Sikorsky Challenge 2021: Ukraine and the World”. The KPI student also received the gold medal in the junior category at Malaysia’s 21st Technology Exhibition (MTE) 2022. This award was particularly significant for Ihor as it enabled him to successfully present his research to the world.
Growing up in a war-torn country, Ihor is an active volunteer in supporting the war effort, preparing and delivering provisions for the military and those in need. Every day the KPI student pursues his studies to get a good education, continue his research, and rebuild Ukraine.
Ihor has developed two working prototypes of his device, and he has a plan to start the mass production of a quadcopter mines detector. He will use the funds to attract more companies and organizations to invest in the finished product and roll it out as quickly as possible.
