Kyiv Polytechnic hosts international conference on biosafety, rehabilitation technologies

The Faculty of Biomedical Engineering (FBMI) at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute organized the 4th International Scientific and Practical Conference titled “Biosafety and Modern Rehabilitation Technologies: Theory, Practice, Perspectives” on October 30, 2024. This event brought together scientists, medical professionals, and experts in engineering from Ukraine, Australia, the United States, Italy and the Netherlands to discuss the prospects for the development of rehabilitation technologies and share best practices in training skilled specialists in this vital field.

“The conference theme arose at a watershed of two challenges: the pandemic and the war,” explained Ihor Khudetskii, Head of the Department of Biosafety and Human Health at the FBMI. “This conference aims to address how our university, our faculty can solve the problems caused by these crises, uniting scientists across the world.”

Among the international attendees was Guido Hendriks, Founder and CEO of the Gyromotics company (Netherlands), which designs and delivers tailor-made, high-performance prosthetic feet and human-centered services for all prosthetic users from children to adults. During the conference, he formalized a partnership with FBMI by signing a memorandum of cooperation. “We showed the options to express yourselves with the looks of your prosthetic foot,” he wrote in a LinkedIn post. “Much like glasses, aesthetics may not affect functionality, but are very important! Especially for children, this can be a benefit during rehabilitation.”

According to Mr. Hendriks, this collaboration aims to enhance the expertise of Ukrainian specialists in lower limb prosthetics, enabling the development of more functional prosthetic solutions that offer greater mobility and freedom of movement.

The fundamental and applied research presented by Kyiv Polytechnic scientists at the conference is aimed not only at bolstering biosafety as an integral component of national security, but also at providing practical applications to assist military personnel and civilians who undermined their health during this brutal war against the terrorist state that goes under the name of russia.
