Kyiv Polytechnic’s accessible premises for people with disabilities

In order to ensure the right to accessibility of education for degree seekers with special educational needs and to enforce the clauses in terms of inclusive education set forth in the Statute of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, the Regulations on Inclusive Education at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, and the 2020-2025 Development Strategy of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, the Program for the Development of Inclusive Education Education without Barriers has been drawn up and is currently active at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

This program provides for the creation of an integrated educational environment by carrying out a package of measures to ensure the accessibility and quality of educational services for all participants in the educational process, especially persons with special educational needs, taking account of the abilities, capabilities, and interests of each individual.

Ramps have been installed at the following locations:

• Building 1 at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, 37 Beresteiskyi Avenue
• Hryhorii Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, 37 Beresteiskyi Avenue
• Building 12 at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, 16/9 Academician Yanhel Street
• Building 31 at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, 5A Mykhailo Braichevskoho Street

Due to the complex architecture of some facilities and financial limitations under martial law, further installation of ramps has been delayed. To facilitate access for people with limited mobility, the university provides staff escorts and disability-related support.

Special call buttons are installed at the entrances of the following buildings, to summon the university staff escort:

• Academic Buildings #2, #4, #5, #7, #9, #10, #11, #12, #13-14, #15-16, #17, #18, #19, #21, #22, #31, and #35
• Museum in Academic Building #6
• Hryhorii Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library
• Dormitory 9 at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

The basement of Kyiv Polytechnic’s Library was rebuilt into the Smart Shelter CLUST Space, where all the requirements for inclusiveness are taken into consideration. It has easily accessible modern workspaces, WCs, and recreational facilities.
