Archaeologists have discovered the oldest university on the Earth

Polish archaeologists by excavations in Egypt have discovered material evidences of the fact that here in Alexandria there was the oldest university on our planet. It was established in the IV century and continued its function until the VII century.

Thirteen university lecture halls found out by digging have accommodated more than five thousand students at the same time.

Auditoria were located close to the Roman theater portico in the eastern part of Alexandria. As you know, in the same city was the biggest ancient library, dated 295 B.C.

Until now, it was believed that the first university of the world was the Al-Azhar University in Cairo founded in the X century in the mosque and had faculties of Islamic law, engineering, agriculture, medicine and others.

Paris-Sorbonne University is much younger, it was built in 1150.
